THE WOMEN'S BALCONY

Israel Hebrew with English Subtitles Director: Emil Ben-Shimon Feature: 96 Minutes
Tradition vs. the power of womenWhen the womens balcony in a Sephardic Orthodox synagogue collapses, leaving the rabbis wife in a coma and the rabbi in shock, the congregation falls into crisis. Charismatic young Rabbi David appears to be a savior after the accident, but he slowly starts pushing his fundamentalist ways and tries to take control. This tests the womens friendships and creates gender rift between the communitys women and men. A rousing, good-natured tale that is both rebellious and respectful in spirit.
