James Toland Vocal Arts is an Oakland, CA based nonprofit established to encourage and cultivate, through competition and education, the emerging talents of singers who aspire to a professional career in vocal performance. The 2017 JTVA Competition Weekend is comprised of four events which are all open to the public. Singers will compete for more than $20,000 in prize money and opportunities to perform with the Oakland Symphony and San Mateo-based Masterworks Chorale. All events will be held at the Valley Center for the Performing Arts on the Holy Names University campus, 3500 Mountain Boulevard in Oakland, CA. Events:
Tier Two Master Class - Friday, June 23, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. Clara Osowski will conduct a master class for the seven Tier Two competition finalists. Ms. Osowski is an active soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States and Europe. Last month, she became the first ever American prize winner when she placed second at the International Das Lied Competition in Heidelberg, Germany. A passionate advocate of art song, Clara serves as the Associate Artistic Director of Source Song Festival, a week-long art song festival in Minneapolis. Tier One Master Class - Friday, June 23, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. Internationally-renowned soprano Deborah Voigt will conduct a master class for the seven Tier One competition finalists. Ms. Voigt, one of the worlds most versatile singers and music's most endearing personalities, recently joined the San Francisco Conservatory of Music as a full-time member of the voice faculty. This class will be a wonderful opportunity to see these fine singers continue to develop their talents under the mentorship of this great artist.
Tier Two Vocal Competition Finals - Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. Tier Two is for singers who are studying at or near the college level and considering a professional singing career. Seven finalists will compete before a judging panel and live audience.
Tier One Vocal Competition Finals - Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. Tier One is for singers who have studied voice extensively, developed substantial skill in vocal performance, and are ready to begin a professional career. Seven finalists will compete before a judging panel and live audience.
Food and beverages will be available for purchase during the break between the two competition finals.
Tickets:
Tickets may be purchased separately for each event. The individual ticket price for each event is $20 for General Admission, $10 for Students. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.
