The Great Flood of 1894 Portland Walking Tour
June 2017 is the 123rd anniversary of The Great Flood of 1894, which saw the Willamette River reach its record height at 33 feet. Kick Ass Oregon History's Doug Kenck-Crispin will host his annual Great Flood Field Trip; visiting the sites, bringing along the old photographs, and talking all about it!
We will position ourselves RIGHT where the original photo was taken, and look at the changes that have occurred over the last 123 years. And, of course, talk about that Great Flood of Biblical proportions, and the effect those waters had on Portland.
Doug Kenck-Crispin is the Ribald Resident Historian from www.orhistory.com. He is the co-producer of the podcast series Kick Ass Oregon History. Doug has been featured in the Portland Mercury, The Oregonian, Willamette Week, Portland Monthly and OPBs Oregon Experience. He has a BA and an MA in History (Portland State University), with an emphasis on Public History and the History of the Pacific Northwest. A lifelong resident of the region, Doug enjoys a good yarn the more bizarre and unbecoming the better especially when they are true!
