Join the Jefferson County Marine Resources Committee and WA Department of Fish and Wildlife on Friday June 9th at Dosewallips State Park to find out about harvesting oysters and a variety of clams. You'll learn about harvesting and shucking oysters, where to find a variety of clams, and how to harvest safely and sustainably. Co-sponsored by WSU Jefferson County Extension.
The program starts at 9 am at the shellfish beach access parking lot, but you MUST PRE-REGISTER. Registration is free. A short questionnaire when registering will help us plan our program.Directions and details will be sent to all registrants. The program includes a 1/3 mile walk on a flat trail to the beach.
You will need a current WDFW shellfish license, bucket, boots and digging tools for the event. WDFW Shellfish Licenses can be purchased on-line at https://www.fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov or one of the following retail outlets: Port Ludlow Marina, Olympic Equipment Rentals in Port Hadlock, Port Townsend Fuel Dock, Brinnon General Store, or Quimper Mercantile, Henery Hardware, or Sea Marine in Port Townsend. Children 14 and under do not need a license.
This public event is free. A $10 donation per family will help support future marine education programs. Register early. Space is limited. For more information, go to http://jeffersonmrc.org.
