New Pearls From the Antilles

Featuring the Fear No Music Ensemple

The composer Guido López-Gavilán will have his string quartet titled Habanera Sensual... y Contradanza Caprichosa performed on this concert. Maestro Lope-Gavilan is the director of the Festival of Contemporary Music held in each November and was our host when five Cascadia composers were invited to this festival this past November.

Also, to our great delight, one of the other composers represented on this program will be here to attend the premiere of a work especially written for the Fear No Music performers. Besides attending his premiere, he will give talks to students and faculty at Portland State University and other institutions during his stay in Portland.

His name is José V. Gavilondo Peón and his composition is titled Half-remembered Dreams for flute, piano and percussion. Pepe, as he is known, is the director of one of the contemporary music ensembles that we heard at the time we attended that festival this past year.
