EMMA COOK & QUESTIONABLE COMPANY with very special guest THE DOBROS
Thursday 4/27 - A Folk Funk Band from Burlington VT EMMA COOK & QUESTIONABLE COMPANY with special guests THE DOBROS $8 advance / $10 at the door 8:30 doors / 9:15 show http://www.questionablecompany.com https://thedobrosnh.bandcamp.com/releases
Raised on Funk, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Soul and Folk, Questionable Company is at once classic and invigorating. The three members, form a small band with a curiously large sound; a folk-funk trio with a gritty, honest and soulful feel. Q Co.s repertoire includes mostly original tunes by Emma Cook, the singer songwriter and rhythmic instrumentalist. A Michigan transplant to Vermont, Cook notes the wild beauty of the people and places that fill her everyday as musical inspiration.
As the band formed, each of their individual musical backgrounds informed and added to their unique sound. With the Jazz finessed, old school rock, classic funk influence of Andy Feltus on drums and Max Guytons distinct, driving melodic bass style, Cooks songs became more funkified, and all three of the musicians molded and melded into a more funk-loving version of themselves. Now, Q Co. continues in an evolving style all their own.
Q Co.s performances engage audiences through their funky grooves, intimate demeanor, and melodic lyrics. An effect pleasing to the mood, the soul, and the dance floor.
Cooks voice can seamlessly transition from big band jazz to coffee shop blues. Her lyrics and the bands tightly woven natural feel make them at home in any setting. Appropriate in your local cafe or on a full stage at a high volume venue, Questionable Company is a no holds barred band that continues to impress.
THE DoBROS The DoBros started in Early 2013 in response to a lack of foot-stomping and dancing going on in their small New Hampshire town. Since then, they have traveled to the corners of NH, MA, and VT to play for crowds small and large. The band performs both acoustic and electric music with a collection of original tunes and a healthy dose of classic covers. Each show is deeply rooted in improvisation, creating a unique and organic experience.
Heres what the press has to say about QUESTIONABLE COMPANY
Cooks vocals largely define Questionable Companys lifting, expressive sound.
Feltus drumming is tender, while Guytons melodic bass lines keep things wistful.
Cooks vocalshushed and deep, and Guytons moody bass reverberates throughoutgorgeously dark
Questionable Company is both surprising and pleasing. It incorporates standard folk lyrical themes with touches of jazz and undulating funk grooves. With a sound that is soulful and distinct but familiar enough to satisfy the Burlington funk crowd this trios got a good thing going.
The three have more up their sleeves than just noodle around. -Seven Days
Helmed by vocalist and songwriter Emma Cook, Questionable Company melds folk and funk together into a sound bigger than youd expect from a three piece. -matadorenerwork.com
