Lecture: The Disco Invasion in Films of the '70s
Much as the British Invasion changed the pop music landscape in the 1960s, the Disco Invasion a decade later caused a titanic shift in the cultural landscape. Disco music had an enormous impact on American culture, not just on the radio, but also in fashion, nightclubs, and of course movies. Film critic Roger Ebert said Disco provided young people with an escape from the general depression and the drabness of the political and musical atmosphere of the seventies. In this lecture we will contextualize the Disco Invasion, and investigate the influence of Disco on Hollywood films of the 1970s.
