Chuckanut Radio Hour at the Leopold's Crystal Ballroom featuring Lyanda Lynn Haupt, author of Mozart's Starling!
Join us for Chuckanut Radio Hour featuring Lyanda Lynn Haupt, Mozart's Starling! Tickets for the Chuckanut Radio Hour are $5 and will be available soon at Village Books and BrownPaperTickets.com -OR- receive a free ticket with pre-purchase of Mozart's Starling (OR if you've already bought the book, with each paid ticket you'll receive a $5 voucher to spend on Village Books merchandise at the show).

In Mozart's Starling, Haupt explores the unlikely and remarkable bond between one of history's most cherished composers and one of Earth's most common birds. The intertwined stories of Mozart's beloved pet and Haupt's own starling provide an unexpected window into human-animal friendships, music, the secret world of starlings, and the nature of creative inspiration. A blend of natural history, biography, and memoir, Mozart's Starling is a tour de force that awakens a surprising new awareness of our place in the world.

Lyanda Lynn Haupt is a naturalist, eco-philosopher, and speaker whose writing is at the forefront of the movement to connect people with nature in their everyday lives. Her newest book is Mozarts Starling (Little, Brown, April, 2017).

Lyandas previous books include: The Urban Bestiary: Encountering the Everyday Wild, (Little, Brown in fall, 2013), finalist for the Orion Book Award; Crow Planet: Essential Wisdom from the Urban Wilderness, (Little, Brown in July 2009), winner of the 2010 Sigurd F. Olson Nature Writing Award; Pilgrim on the Great Bird Continent: The Importance of Everything and Other Lessons from Darwins Lost Notebooks, (Little, Brown, 2004); and Rare Encounters with Ordinary Birds (Sasquatch), winner of the 2002 Washington State Book Award.

Lyanda has created and directed educational programs for Seattle Audubon, worked in raptor rehabilitation in Vermont, and been a seabird researcher for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the remote tropical Pacific. Her writing has appeared in a variety of publications, including Utne, LA Times, Image, Open Spaces, Huffington Post, Wild Earth, and Conservation Biology Journal. She lives in Seattle with her husband and daughter, a mixed backyard chicken flock, and Carmen the starling, featured in her newest book.
