HAT 2017 SPRING MASTERCLASS SERIES
Spring is in the air! And the Highland Arts Theatre is celebrating by launching a three-part Spring Masterclass Series with industry professionals: Wesley J. Colford, Chuck Homewood, and Jacob Zimmer.
The series continues the work of a subsect of the theatre, the Highland Conservatory for the Performing Arts, which began work last summer with the inaugural HAT Resident Company Training Program.
The new spring series is broken into three workshops or master classes:
May 7th: Wesley J. Colford, Auditioning for the Stage (1PM-6PM) May 21st: Chuck Homewood, Masterclass for the Singing Actor (2PM-5PM) June 4th: Jacob Zimmer, Introduction to Working as an Ensemble (11AM-5PM)
The trio offer a range of knowledge in a variety of disciplines, including more than 50 years of combined professional experience. Colford is the Artistic Director of the Highland Arts Theatre and has directed 8 shows in the last year including: Dream, Annie, and The Return of the Cape Breton Liberation Army.
Chuck Homewood has musically directed more than 65 productions across the country and has toured internationally including three Broadway shows. He was Neptune Theatres Director of Education for eight years and musically directed several of their shows, including: Into the Woods, Frog and Toad, Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, & Peter Pan.
Jacob Zimmer is a theatre maker, process designer, facilitator and a dance dramaturge. Born in Cape Breton and growing up in Halifax, Jacob now lives in Toronto. Mostly. Hes the founding director of Small Wooden Shoe Planning and Performance, a partner at Intervene Design and faculty member in Leadership Development at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. He also collaborates with Public Recordings, Dancemakers, Secret Theatre and others.
Masterclasses are open to participants 14 years and up, ranging in price from $45 to $50. However, a package is available for participants to partake in all three workshops for only $100. Space is limited to only 10 Core Participants per workshop.
Once core spots are filled up, additional interested parties can also participate by auditing the workshops from the intimate seats of the Highland Arts Theatre. Auditing participating fees range from $20 to $25, or you can select an Auditing Package for all three workshops for $50.
