Fruit Tree Grafting; Hands-On Learning
Urban orchards and backyard fruit trees produce fantastically bountiful, delicious harvests, and there could be MANY more planted in Boston, leading to more food security and self-reliance (and hard cider and apple pies!).
William McCaffrey, of Spring Rain Farm in Taunton, MA, will share his knowledge and skills caring for, and propagating, pome & stone fruit trees. He will then guide us as we use grafting knives, tape, and more to make viable grafts onto live rootstock: whip-and-tongue, chip budding (also known as shield budding), and wedge grafts will all be taught.
If there's enough interest, maybe we can launch a Boston chapter of www.GuerrillaGrafters.org ?
