Mid-Century Modern Architecture Bike Tour
Saturday, June 10th 1:00 PM
Chestnut Hill has some of the world's most important mid-20th century buildings! Come along for the ride as we learn about these by bike. The tour will be about 6 miles long (about 90 minutes), winding through the East and West sides of Chestnut Hill. Highlights will include clusters of houses developed around Cherokee Village and around Pastorius Park, plus numerous others nestled throughout the community. Hear the stories behind these magnificent homes, which exhibit elements of both restrained and progressive architecture, and what drove their pathfinding designers, including Ueland and Junker, Kenneth Day, Louis Kahn, and Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown. A newly-constructed home representing 21st century modernism will also be featured. The tour should be suitable for cyclists at beginner-to-advanced levels. Bring your own bike and helmet.
Tour will leave Chestnut Hill East station promptly at 1:00 PM.
