Laying Down Arms: A Peaceful Transition in Colombia
As part of our ongoing At The Hearth conversation series, Cerimon House is delighted to welcome photojournalist Zach Krahmer as he discusses the time he spent embedded with rebels in Colombia this past February.
The country of Colombia is emerging into a new future, after ratifying a peace agreement with the rebel group FARC in November 2016. Currently living in UN Transition zones, the South American guerrillas are undergoing a process of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration. According to the agreement, they are meant to be disarmed by June, although progress has been slow and some doubts have been raised.
Join Zach Krahmer as he discusses his time in Ituango, Colombia, with the Vela Colectivo, and view a collection of large-scale immersive portraits of guerrillas made with a 19th-century photographic process. Let down your assumptions and come ready to talk about what happens after a conflict. How do you reintegrate a guerrillas army back into mainstream society, and what challenges lie ahead for the Colombian people?
Sunday, May 11th at 7:00p.m. Concessions & spirits available.
