Michael Romero
Michael Romero is an award winning singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist and Licensed Clinical Social Worker driven by a desire for social change. At home on guitar, trumpet, mandolin, charango, glockenspiel, and at the mic, Romero was voted one of Austins top ten horn players for the past three years of the Austin Music Awards. Always aiming to bond music and Social Work, Romero performs solo, with Strumero, Gina Chavez and has over ten years of therapeutic work with youth and families here and abroad. In 2015, he received the Unsung Hero Award by the National Office of Communities In Schools for his creative work to empower youth to succeed and achieve in life at Zavala Elementary. Romero would often be seen in the hallways of the school or walking to a community center nearby with a guitar, drumsticks, and games in hand to help kids cope and discover their passions. Romero has served with the Peace Corps as a Youth Development Volunteer in Honduras, toured domestically and abroad solo and with Gina Chavez. In 2016, he served as a US State Department Musical Ambassador with Chavez. The group offered youth music workshops and performances in Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, Argentina and the Dominican Republic. Romeros newest musical project offers a unique Interactive Kids Show in which youth hear his funny animal story songs and are invited to participate as part of the band with a pair of drumsticks for each participant to use.
