This, the 5th edition of our sorta-annual music festival, the Skunk Funk, features bands from near and far, as well as great food and drink. Sponsored by our friends at Empire Brewing, Stone Quarry Art Park, and Nelson Farms, this will be a day to remember. Join us (rain or shine!).

Here's the lineup:

THE JON STICKLEY TRIO
Jon Stickley Trio has been making waves with the independent and fan-funded release of their 2nd album, Lost at Last, this past October. The originality and sheer energy of this genre-bending ensemble serves as a welcome wake up call for those who experience it. With roots in gypsy jazz, bluegrass, and hip-hop in an exhilarating all-acoustic swirl (Acoustic Guitar Magazine), Jon Stickley Trio combines Jon Stickleys rapid-fire flatpicking guitar with the sultry and wild, yet refined, melodies of Lyndsay Pruett on violin set over the deep groove of Patrick Armitage on drums. The three have fused their collective styles into a repertoire of exciting and innovative original music along with some captivating covers. Lost at Last was recorded in the bands hometown of Asheville, NC at the iconic Echo Mountain Studios under the watchful eye of producer Dave King (The Bad Plus).

The New York Times Nate Chinen writes  theres hardy cohesion among the players  no less on the Gypsy standard Valse de Wasso than on Darth Radar a turbocharged original with a ska upbeat and a shredding melody. And when Mr. Stickley and friends turn to bluegrass, as on The High Road, by Tim OBrien, they sound both respectful and free. Premier Guitar Magazine also took note of Darth Radar, with Jason Shadrick calling it, a rapid-fire take that moves from a serious ska beat to burning surf-style runs that would make Dick Dale proud.

BROTHER BROTHERS
Rich harmonies and thoughtful songs accompanied by guitar, cello, violin and banjo as only a group like the Brother Brothers can offer. Already established players and composers in a wide spectrum of genres throughout the New York musical circuit, they are finally teaming up to bring their individual experiences together.

Brooklyn-based fiddler and songster Adam Moss musical career can most easily be characterized by the variance of his influence. Adam loves and plays in the Klezmer, Bluegrass, Old-time, and swing traditions which lends itself to a very unique and innovative style in performance setting. He is actively touring with Bostons Session Americana, Brooklyns The Defibulators, Ana Egge, and has formerly toured with Anais Mitchells Hadestown, and Texas 3 Redneck Tenors.

Originally from Peoria, IL, David Moss began his musical journey playing cello and singing in various formats from a very young age. After receiving a degree in cello performance from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), he moved to Austin, TX in 2007 where he immediately formed with the trio The Blue Hit. There, David attended the Kerrville Folk Festival, and before long was playing guitar and writing songs. By the summer 2011 he was a finalist in the prestigious New Folk competition and went on to become a winner.

He is currently living in Brooklyn, NY and performing his songs in various formats with his twin brother Adam Moss and continuing his cello career playing and composing with The Blue Hit as well as groups such as the Satellite Ballet, Moishe Circus, The Broken Stares, Ana Egge, Roy Williams and The Human Hands and many others.

David released his album "Songs for Willoughby" in March 2014, and his breakout hit "Jerusalem" was featured on Democracy Now! in July 2014

MILE TWELVE
Mile Twelve is a fresh, hard driving young band beautifully walking the line between original and traditional bluegrass. Fast gaining recognition for their outstanding performances in bluegrass and folk circles, Evan Murphy, Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, Nate Sabat, BB Bowness and David Benedict write captivating songs and daring instrumental pieces from diverse influences.  Banjo luminary Tony Trischka says, "Mile Twelve is carrying the bluegrass tradition forward with creativity and integrity."

Since their formation in the fall of 2014, Mile Twelve has quickly been on the rise.  They released their debut 6-track self titled EP, and performed extensively throughout the U.S., Ireland and Canada, including several major festivals; Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, FreshGrass Festival, Wind Gap Bluegrass Festival and Joe Val Bluegrass Festival.  A track from their debut EP was featured on Sirius XM Bluegrass Junction's "Hand Picked with Del McCoury," while another track was featured on Spotify's "Fresh Bluegrass" 2015 playlist. That same year, they were selected as formal showcase artists at the North East Folk Alliance. The summer of 2016 held more milestones for this young group: opening for Tim OBrien at the Station Inn in Nashville, winning the Podunk Bluegrass Festival Band Contest and being nominated for a Momentum Award by the International Bluegrass Music Association and adding a fifth band member: mandolin player David Benedict. This winter they headed into the studio in Nashville to record their debut full-length album with producer Stephen Mougin at the helm.

RUDDY WELL BAND
A homegrown entity formed in Syracuse, the Ruddy Well Band has emerged as one of Central New Yorks premier performing string bands. A finely-crafted combination of dynamic rhythms, tight harmonies, and mindful lyrics  the acoustic instrumentalists bring their audience fun, foot-stomping Americana.

The Ruddy Well Band released their self-produced album, Little Blue Marble, in 2011. At Subcat Studios in 2013, they produced their second album, Change of Course, which won a 2014 Sammy Award for Best Americana Album and in July 2016, they released their third album Building a Fire.

Some noted performances include The Nelson Odeon, Taste of Syracuse, and the Rochester Fringe Festival. The Ruddy Well Band was the winner of the 2014 Grassroots Festival Band Contest, received a second Sammy in 2014 for Peoples Choice for Best Band, and has been featured on several Syracuse and Rochester radio shows.

JASON SCHNITT
Jason Schnitt has been a fixture of the Utica area underground scene for decades, played in The Reuben James, as well as countless other bands, and has put out more records than he can count! Listen in as he shares what makes his heart beat and plays original political protest songs in between sets.
