Wild Honey Presents: Thomas Walsh, Parthenon Huxley, and Chris Price for the Autism Think Tank
On Sunday, May 14th from 4pm to 7pm in the Wild Honey Foundation backyard amphitheater, Thomas Walsh, Parthenon Huxley, and Chris Price will deliver three sets of music to benefit the Autism Think Tank.
Thomas Walsh is a Choice Music Prize, Meteor and Ivor Novello nominated songwriter having been the driving force behind his cult powerpop outfit PUGWASH for ten years and recently being one half of the cricket loving pop duo 'THE DUCKWORTH LEWIS METHOD' with musical partner Neil Hannon.
Thomas was born in his parents house in Drimnagh in 1969. "Lazy bugger even then I was, not wanting to go to the hospital to be born". As men landed on the moon and the sixties were officially coming toa grand musical close at Woodstock, Thomas set about listening to allthe classic pop music that was streaming forth literally every week from his parents TV, radio and stereo. "My brothers started to bring Al Stewart, Mike Oldfield, Queen and E.L.O records into the house along with Roy Wood, Slade and Gilbert O'Sullivan ones that my Mam and Dad already had there.....you can see why I'm steeped in a love of great pop!".
Thomas, in his guise as PUGWASH has released 7 albums in ten yearsand been given numerous accolades..one of which is still a 'goosepimple' moment for him. "Back in 2006 Brian Wilson's manager David Leaf obtained my e-mail through an acquaintance and sent me a mail saying that Brian loved my track 'It's nice to be nice' and as he was coming to Dublin to play in Vicar Street he'd love to meet me. MEET ME!!?? He came, I met Brian, he said 'Hey! You're the nice to be nice guy', I said 'Yes' and he said 'Great song'.....I still think it was all a fantastic dream to be honest".
After years of artistic success it was time to get something more out of the music game, so OF COURSE an album all about cricket was the obvious step towards that..??!! No? Well 50,000 sales in the U.K, a Top 40 U.K debut chart placing, numerous award nominations, famous fans(Stephen Fry, Simon le Bon and Noel Gallagher to name but a small few) and sell out shows in London (Queen Elizabeth Hall) and Dublin (Olympia) all within a year of the release of 'THE DUCKWORTH LEWIS METHOD' certainly adds up to a resounding YES!!
ANDY PARTRIDGE - "Pugwash, at their best, are almost Beatle-like in their greatness. They are THAT good."
Thomas is recording a new record with Jason Falkner in Los Angeles.
Parthenon Huxley's dozen albums are packed with hooky, meaningful songs featuring his "gold dust voice" [Mojo Magazine] and a curio cabinet's worth of cool guitar sounds. Huxley's consistency has earned him a following of completeists--dedicated fans who own and love all his work. A recent remark from a fan on Facebook hit it right on the head --"I don't recall ever hearing a bad song by Parthenon Huxley."
Hux's first single, "Buddha, Buddha," caused Rolling Stone to gush, "You could land a marlin with these hooks!" His albums Sunny Nights, P. Hux "Deluxe" and Homemade Spaceship all received Album of the Year awards. "I Loved Everything" from the album Purgatory Falls climbed to #1 on Rolling Stone's Exclusive Download Chart.
A year after losing his wife, screenwriter Janet Heaney ("Powwow Highway") to cancer, Hux was recruited in 1998 to join ELO Part II. Hux teamed with ELO members Bev Bevan, Kelly Groucutt, Mik Kaminski and Lou Clark (as well as American singer/keyboardist Eric Troyer) and began touring the world. The experience broadened Hux's horizons as a professional musician and sent him to dozens of interesting countries including Chile, Russia, Dubai, Guatemala, El Salvador, Argentina, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Poland, Ecuador, Mexico and of course all over the UK and USA.
Hux made his mark as a producer and collaborator in 1993 with Mark Everett of eels, when Everett was a solo artist known as E. The first song the pair wrote together ("Hello Cruel World") became a Top Ten Alternative hit. Hux scored again when he produced and wrote with Kyle Vincent. Their song "Wake Me Up (When The World's Worth Waking Up For)" hit number one in several markets and set a record for "bubbling under" the Billboard Hot 100 longer than any song in history (not that that was the plan). Hux has also collaborated with Foreigner hit maker Mick Jones, McCartney guitarist Rusty Anderson, Mick Jagger guitarist Stevie Salas, Canadian chanteuse Sass Jordan, Canadian Idol winner Kalan Porter, Go-Go's drummer Gina Schock, Chicago Transit Authority's Robert Lamm and many more.
Chris Price, producer for Emitt Rhodes and Linda Perhacs, readies second solo album. Second solo album, Stop Talking, coming on Omnivore Recordings on May 19; features veteran musicians. LOS ANGELES, Calif. Its been five years since Chris Price released his debut solo album, but there are a few reasons its taken this long for a follow-uphes been a bit busy. Even as he produced critically acclaimed comebacks from Linda Perhacs and Emitt Rhodes, opened for The Who with Tal Wilkenfelds band, and wrote songs with Roger Joseph Manning Jr. (Jellyfish, Beck), Price continued to write and record his own new music. The result? Stop Talking, due out on Omnivore Recordings on May 19, 2017. Recorded from 2013 to 2016, Stop Talking contains 14 tracks produced, engineered, and arranged by Price, and features a wide variety of sounds and styles. Acoustic tracks (Once Was True) meet electric tracks like the title cut. Others are peppered with string arrangements (Man Down), Mellotron, and tape loops (Algebra In The Sky). Chris was joined in the studio by a variety of top musicians, including Kyle Fredrickson, Ben Lecourt, Fernando Perdomo, Joe Seiders, and many others. According to Price, I spent the five years since my first album Homesick working on albums for two heroes of mine, Emitt Rhodes and Linda Perhacs. But I never stopped writing and recording material of my own, and both of those incredibly inspiring and fulfilling projects ended up deeply informing my work, pushing me to think harder about my lyrics, become more adventurous in my production and never take the safe route musically. Nearly 50 songs were recorded for this project, and I went through an arduous and at times painful process whittling it all down to the form it is now in. Im very proud of this work, which has been brewing for quite some time. But I should really stop talking and let the music speak for itself. Stop Talking is a perfect introduction to understanding why Chris Price is such an in-demand producer and musician. Stellar songwriting and playing all add up to one of the best listening experiences you will have in 2017. Once you hear it, you will not be able to stop talking about Stop Talking. CD/Digital Track List: 1. Stop Talking 2. Hi Lo 3. Pulling Teeth 4. Man Down 5. Father to the Man 6. Once Was True 7. You and Me (and Everyone Else) 8. Algebra in the Sky 9. Sigh 10. Darkness 11. Contrition 12. One of Them 13. Just in Time 14. Anhedonia
