OPEN
OPEN is a comedy where outrageous encounters of sexual desire and love are played out in real time and through fantasies. Writer, director Jeff Bedillion tells the story of a married couple whose perfect love has hit a lull in the bedroom, so they attempt to keep their bond by agreeing to try an open relationship after five years of monogamy. Veronica and Duncan Huntsville live in present day San Francisco so this opens the rules for play with anyone. Jealousy, deceit, torment and grief are the norm when the permutations of personalities collide and the deviations of behavior override true love's intentions. Bedillion has written a tour de force role for leading lady Katharine Otis, who delivers adroit comic timing at every turn. He has penned a complex character, Veronica Huntsville, for a straight woman dealing with choices to find closure, free herself or save her marriage. The bonus for the audience is that the writing is witty and political at the same time. The husband is played by Brian Cybok, with supporting players Julia Lienke, Sal Mattos, Renato Robles and Luke Wold. Back Alley Theater Company enjoyed a successful first run with their new play OPEN in September this year as part of the Resident Artist Workshop (RAW) at The Garage. Producer, Mary Alice Fry, was so impressed with this hilarious play and ensemble cast she immediately booked it for an extended run at Shotwell Studios, November 30 through December 17, 2012.
Jeff Bedillion and Katharine Otis started their theatrical partnership in 2010 with original plays The Understudies at The Garage and Country Club Catastrophe at Exit Theatre. They also presented Beyond Therapy by Christopher Durang.
