Join us for a 3-hour Freedom Sail aboard the Amistad!
*** Sunday, May 28's sail has been canceled. *** Ticket holders for May 28 may switch their tickets to Saturday, May 27.
Celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Amistad Africans' return to Africa.
Discovering Amistad and New London Maritime Society invite the public to a sail aboard the historic Amistad at Amistad Pier, New London's Waterfront Park.
While enjoying a 3-hour sail, you will learn the history of New London's role in the capture, and ultimate release, of the Mende people of Sierra Leone and their long-fought struggle for freedom. A continuing story of freedom today will be part of the educational program.
Sails will take place Saturdays and Sundays on May 7, 8, 13, 14, 20 (sold out charter sail), 21, and 27, 28, from 12 noon to 3 PM. Cost for the sail is $35 for individuals; and $30 for youth ages 7 - 16, and seniors age 65+.
Group sails for church groups and nonprofits ($1,200) and for corporations ($2,500) are also available. Groups sails can be arranged by contacting Barbara Bind at Discovering Amistad. 203-498-8222 or bbind@optonline.net.
All proceeds go to support New London Maritime Society / Custom House Maritime Museum, and Discovering Amistad.
Note: Limit is 40 people per sail for guests age 7 and older.
