The Santa Margherita String Quartet
The Santa Margherita String Quartet returns to St. Paul's Episcopal Church with a program of Schubert and Dvorak. The Benicia-based quartet will perform Dvorak's Quartet in E flat, opus 51 and Schubert's celebrated quartet in D minor, usually referred to as "Death and the Maiden."
Previous performances in Benicia and Vallejo have included works by Kodaly, Mendelssohn, Hadyn, Bartok and Beethoven. Their debut performance was described as "polished and brilliant."
This performance the quartet will be Clif Foster/violin, Michael Graham/cello, Julie Kim/violin and Stephanie Ng/viola.

ABOUT CLIF FOSTER:
Clif grew up in the Chicago area where he attended the American Conservatory of Music. His further classical studies were with Paul Makanowitzky and the Meadowmount School. He has played under such highly regarded conductors as Carlo Maria Giulini, Georg Solti and Daniel Barenboim and is a tenured member of the highly acclaimed San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.
Clif has performed on recordings with Art Pepper, Linda Ronstadt, John Williams and Yanni as well as on numerous movie soundtracks. His television credits include Good Morning America and the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. From 1994 to 1998, Clif was Concertmaster for the Yanni World Tour and he appears on the Tribute and Albert Hall videos. He has performed live with a wide and varied range of well known artists including Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Sarah Brightman, Boz Skaggs, Moody Blues, Rod Stewart, Smokey Robinson, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Ella Fitzgerald.
Clif currently lives in Benicia with his wife, Paula and their German Shepherd, Bogey.
MICHAEL GRAHAM, CELLO:
Michael Graham has been hailed by the San Francisco Classical Voice for his "almost painfully prettyexpressive richness", and by the San Jose Mercury News as "super-good". He studied at the Eastman School of Music and Yale University, where he was a founding member of that institution's secret chamber music society, Skull and Bows. Mr. Graham is a former member of the Chagall String Quartet, winner of a rural residency grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, and the San Francisco-based new music group Adorno Ensemble. He is currently a member of the Oakland Symphony, and appears regularly with such ensembles as the Grammy-award-winning New Century Chamber Orchestra and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Graham is committed to exploring music beyond the classical genre, and has performed and recorded with artists ranging from Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg to John Densmore of the Doors. He can be heard nightly in the San Francisco Orpheum Theater's production of "Wicked" and on Van Morrison's latest album, "Astral Weeks Live from Hollywood Bowl."
JULIE KIM, VIOLIN:
Julie Kim began her string quartet career with the acclaimed Franciscan String Quartet in 1982. The quartet was awarded the Wardwell Fellowship at Yalke University to study with the Tokyo String Quartet in 1985. The quartet won First Prize at the prestigious Banff International String Quartet competition in 1986. The quartet toured throughout Europe, Canada and the United States. Ms. Kim participated in the Aspen, Norfold and Banff Music Festivals and pursued chamber music studies with the Tokyo, Julliard, Cleveland, Emerson and Mermeer String Quartets. As a member of a string quartet to represent the San Francisco Symphony's Adventures in Music (AIM) program and Music at Koh's school program, Ms. Kim began a collaboration with form the Chorda String Quartet. The quartet focuses on bringing music education and performances to underprivileged schools in the Bay Area.
STEPHANIE NG, VIOLA:
Stephanie Ng, viola, holds degrees in music from the University of California at Berkeley and San Francisco State University. She performs with many orchestras throughout the Bay Area including the Oakland, Santa Rosa, Berkeley, Marin, and California Symphonies. She is Head of the Chamber Music Program at the Head Royce School and Viola Coach for the El Camino Youth Symphony. An avid chamber player herself, she has performed with the Alexander String quartet and is a founding member of the Divisa Ensemble.
