JULIAN JACOBSON with guest artist Sandro Russo
Julian Jacobson - short biography Since the 1970s Julian Jacobson has been a forceful and individual presence on the UK music scene and in more than 40 countries world wide. As a virtuoso pianist, he gave the UK premiere of Ligetis Etudes Book One in 1987, has made many acclaimed CD recordings including music of Balakirev (Sonata, Islamey), Weber (the complete sonatas), Schumann and Dvorak, and given many complete cycles of the 32 Beethoven sonatas, of which three were marathon performances in a single day. He will record the sonatas during 2017-18. He has partnered legendary musicians such as Zara Nelsova, Ivry Gitlis and Sandor Vegh as well as many leading soloists of today. As a composer he has written and conducted five TV and film scores including To The Lighthouse and We Think The World Of You. His virtuoso transcription for piano duet of Gershwins Second Rhapsody is published by Schott-Bardic, and his new transcription of An American In Paris receives its US premiere in the present series, with guest artist Sandro Russo. Julian Jacobson, formerly Head of Keyboard Studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, currently teaches at the Royal College of Music London and Birmingham Conservatoire. He is Guest Professor at Xiamen University, China, and Chairman of the Beethoven Society of Europe.
