A diverse and deeply satisfying bill tonight featuring the electronic soul of This Bliss, the prog-rock of Body English and the impassioned upbeat music of The Nickel and Dime Band with the legendary Rick Berlin.
This Bliss kicks off the show tonight with a maxi single release party and introduces listeners to a brand new musical genre: true grime. According to a local music blog, it's sure to be every music websites preferred buzz genre. But seriously, we're about synergy. And drum machines. And the kurzweil. And a totally awesome light/video show.
Body English - While the "prog-rock band" label is generally reserved for artists with alt-rock leanings and a fondness for the rock of the '70s, Boston's Body English are just as, if not more so, deserving of such a title. Instead of disconstructing alt-rock and putting it back together, the six-piece band applies the process to balladic folk-rock. The result is a vortex of melodies old and new, with classical elements peppered in as well, that satisfies due to its ability to come across as intimately familiar while being innovative at the same time.
The Nickel & Dime Band is as JP a band as you can get (sort of - 4 of us live and work here) 3.5 years ago Berlin ran into Mclean at the Brendan Behan Pub and 3 months later we co-opted the name after their (at-the-time) awesome live karaoke band. Today, we're a kickass, upbeat, funny, danceable, deep and total pro buncha rock n roll idiots. Eight in all. 3 guitars, bass, keys, kit, sax, trombone. Ricky Mclean, Rob Manachio, Al Radzikowski, Jesse Adams-Lukowsky, Sam Dudley (Berlin's nephew), Dave Goodchild and Dino Govoni. We recorded ALWAYS ON INSANE at Dimension Sound with Joe Stewart (mastered by Bob Weston - Chicago Mastering Service) and are releasing our second CD, WHEN WE WERE KIDS (at Woolly Mammoth Sound with producer David Minehan. And we friggin' LOVE the JP (HEART-ON-SLEEVE) MUSIC FESTIVAL!!!!
