Sunday, November 4 More Years Presidential State Dinner
Dine like a president. Root for a POTUS who grows his own food. Raise your glass to the president you could brew a beer with!
President Obama? We like this guy's style.* He brews ale and porter, and grows a food garden that supplies his kitchen. Like Whittier Backyard Farms, the White House Kitchen Garden demonstrates that we don't have to grow grass! The land is there for growing food.
Ever wanted to taste a Presidential State Dinner? Now's your chance. We're faithfully** recreating (in vegan form) last year's Fall Harvest State Dinner honoring Korea's President Lee Myung-bak and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok. Be prepared to eat like a president!
Menu:
First Course: Butternut Squash Bisque, Agave-Poached Cranberries with Vegan Cured Ham, Pumpkin Seed Praline, Crème Fraiche
Second Course: Early Fall Harvest Salad on Daikon Sheets, Masago Rice Pearl Crispies, Rice Wine Vinaigrette
Main Course: Vegan Eggplant Beef and French Bread Cubes with Orange-Ginger Fondue, Sauteed Kale, Roasted Sweet Potatoes With Apples And Chiles
Dessert: Chocolate Malt Devils Food Layers, with Pear and Almond Brittle
*And to prove it, we're sending 10% of the sales from this dinner to the Obama 2012 campaign. **The White House does not release recipes for its state dinners, so we exchanged a roasted kabocha squash item for one bona fide White House recipe from the cookbook "American Grown," namely Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Apples and Chiles. The other recipes were informed by forums like Chowhound and blogs like Obama Foodorama.

Urban Dinner Socials: Come dine with us on Sundays and check out our vegan, organic, local, experimental traveling gastropub!
Why dinner? You'll sit down with a stranger and get up with a friend at our community table. Come dine with some of the nicest people in L.A.!
Why vegan? Our inclusive cuisine welcomes everyone. Not only is it vegan, we can make it gluten-free/soy-free/corn-free, you name it.
Why local? Supporting a neighborhood farm* means eating healthy, pure, sustainably grown food. It also means a reduced carbon footprint, increased independence for our local economy, and reduced reliance on non-local resources.
Why experimental? Vegan and raw vegan cuisine is the new Wild West for food lovers. We have the most fun pioneering and helping invent this cuisine!
*The primary produce supplier for the Urban Dinner Socials is Whittier Backyard Farms, a small start-up farm group in Whittier, CA.
