Alternative Religious Expressions of the Central Coast -- Prof. Stephen Lloyd-Moffett
Fridays, May 26, June 2 and June 9, 2017, 11:00am- 1:00pm at The Lavra 2070 East Deer Canyon Arroyo Grande Three Sessions, $15 for LLCC members, $30 for non-members
This is a three session course. Buying a single ticket for this course admits you to all three sessions/classes.
The Central Coast holds some interesting examples of religious diversity. This three-session course will feature some of these diverse religious expressions.
Session One will look at the Temple of the People at Halcyon, which was founded in 1904 as an off-shoot of the Theosophical Society;
Session Two will look at Scientology because L. Ron Hubbard died in San Luis Obispo and spent his last years in nearby Creston;
Session Three will look at Esalen on the Big Sur Coast and its own unique religion of no religion
Each session will feature an hour long lecture followed by discussion of the topic.
Professor Stephen Lloyd-Moffett is a Professor of Comparative Religion and director of the Religious Studies at Cal Poly. He is a recognized scholar of religious studies and an extremely popular teacher and local lecturer
