Himalayan Queens: A Language and Culture Tour of Jackson Heights
Join Mustangi impresario Nawang Tsering and Endangered Language Alliance for our first-ever language, culture, and food tour of Himalayan Jackson Heights, where we'll explore a few of the dozens of languages and cultures of the region that are now at home in Queens, "the world's borough".
This approximately 2-hour tour (including about 20 minutes of walking) will visit a religious site (the Sherpa Monastery), a store where Himalayan goods are sold, and end with snacks at a local restaurant famed for its specialties from the Thak Khola region of Nepal. On our route, we'll learn about the Tibetan, Sherpa, Mustangi, Manange and Thakali languages and cultures, among others.
There are only 20 spots (at $30 each) and they'll go fast. Come learn about and support linguistic diversity in NYC!
