"Kids & Race: Changing the Narrative"
*WALK-INS WELCOME THE MORNING OF THE WORKSHOP. Email childrenscommunitybellingham@gmail.com to reserve a spot. Please bring a credit card or a check.*
Race still matters in America today. How can we raise children who go beyond the superficial notion of colorblindness to see and challenge the ways that privilege still shapes our lives? How can parents prepare to seize the teachable moments that arise when we least expect them?
Made possible by a #ProjectNeighborly grant from the Whatcom Coummunity Foundation and in collaboration with Whatcom Peace and Justice Center & Children's CommUNITY, join us for this 3 hour workshop on Saturday, May 13th at First Congregational Church in Bellingham. This workshop is specially suited for preschool through elementary aged children, their parents and their educators. Children and adults have separate programs to engage them. Snacks will be provided for the children.
This workshop will focus on identity development and cultural norms. Presenters will discuss how narratives and counter-narratives shape our children's personal and racial identity development. ASL interpretation will be provided.
There are a limited number of discounted tickets available. Please send an email to childrenscommunitybellingham@gmail.com to see if you qualify.
There are also a limited number of child care spots in the nursery. Please send an email to childrenscommunitybellingham@gmail.com to reserve a spot.
This workshop series is a co-sponsored project between The Well and Columbia City Church of Hope in Seattle, Washington.
