Unholy Irish History Bus Tour of St. Paul
Join the Irish Fair of Minnesota and Teresa McCormick for a fascinating walk back in time! Meet the bus at the Celtic Junction and tour the Unholy Irish roots of Saint Paul on a vintage bus provided by the MN Transportation Museum.
The Unholy Irish: The early Irish of MN, the infamous, resourceful, innovative, oft-times criminal, but always creative Irish right here in our back yard. Yes, history of a sordid nature, the darker side in an earlier time where the Irish sought to make their way or turn a profit -- an 1830s murder, the OConnor System, the prominent, powerful Nettie Conley, gangsters and hideaways, harlots and hounds. Hear about a surprising 1860s imprisonment, mobsters, purity crusades, liquor patrols and frontier justice. See actual sites of social evil, crimes and corruption. A jam-packed, two-hour romp through unique and impressive history aboard a 1950s vintage bus with tour guide Teresa McCormick. Limited seating. Register by April 21. Date: Sunday, April 23 Depart: 1pm Return: 3pm Location: Celtic Junction, 836 Prior Ave N, St Paul, MN 55104
Physical Activity Level: Low. No hiking. Possibly disembark at specific sites for commentary or photos.
