Laura Meyer/Cygne in Concert
The Marshall Grange is hosting Indie singer/songwriter Laura Meyer in a benefit concert for the Granges High School Scholarship Program. The concert takes place on April 8 starting at 7:30 pm.
Laura, who now goes by the name Cygne (pronounced sign), has been performing for over a decade, logging over 250,000 in her car and 1000+ performances in tiny spirit stores nestled amid medieval ruins in Europe, bars and roadhouses on the American landscape, coffeehouses in cities throughout the world and major festivals like Kerrville and Telluride. For many years she lived at the mercy of tires, tip jars and the kind souls who filled them and has weathered sketchy bar owners, break-ins, snowstorms, ghosts, and hungry nights spent with bed bugs. Out of all of this has come a trunk full of songs about the landscape of the road, people met and loved, and many motels, all sung in what has been described as poetic, lyrical, gutsy, and gritty style reminiscent of Patti Smith.
A couple of years ago after a European tour, Cygne ended up in Northern Vermont where she joined her partner to write, record, and retreat from the road for the winter. Things did not work out well. When their housekeeping arrangement fell through they moved into an upstairs room of a haunted pizza restaurant where lights flickered, unseen babies cried, and the relationship ended. Out of this was born her 10th album, Passenger, an invitation to put down shields and honor what is before and within us all. This past February she released her 11th CD titled Let It Breathe, based on her experiences in Europe during the refugee crisis and terrorist attacks of 2015 and 2016. You can learn more about Cygne, sample her music and view videos at www.laurameyer.net.
In addition to the music there will be a silent auction and some very tasty appetizers, desserts and beverages for your pleasure. All the proceeds from this concert will go into the Marshall Grange High School Scholarship fund which provides one to two scholarships per year to local graduating students. This concert is an opportunity to see a road-tested pro making an encore performance at one of her favorite venues while supporting our local graduating students.
