Great introductory class for novices or for beginning artists who need practice in figure sketching! We will start by utilizing art references and then move on to a clothed model for inspiration in exploring basic figure sketching concepts.
The human form will gently emerge through soft charcoal studies and you will also enjoy the excitement and immediacy of quick gestural sketches and other approaches.
Note: Prior watercolor students may focus on that medium.
Supplies: Students share cost of charcoal sticks and ream of large size paper. Other supplies are available locally. Info emailed upon registration.
Prices: $150 for YAC members and $165 for non-members. Model Fee: $20 (per participant) for entire course. Paid to model.
Instructor: Constance Pierce has twice exhibited her sketchbooks at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (DC ) and taught with the Smithsonian Art Studio (DC), Cleveland Art Institute (OH), Penland School (NC) and was a tenured University professor of drawing and painting in New York state. She was also a visiting artist at Millsaps College and a Research Fellow at Yale University Divinity School (CT). She has exhibited in NY, DC, CT, OH, PA, MD, MS, in Europe, and most recently in Japan. Her work can be seen locally at Oxford Treehouse Gallery.
