Mall Goth - "The Rise of Stepdad"
Performs at: Snug Harbor
Performance Times: Friday, April 28 at 7:30 pm Saturday, April 29 at 3:30 pm Sunday, April 30 at 4:00 pm
Akin to a 35 minute Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mall Goth is a magical and absurd musical theater love letter to goth culture from some Carolina punks.
Mall Goth follows an eponymous folk hero on his journey to attain self-realization and philosophical victory over his moralizing mother, the school principal, his stepdad, and other disturbing incarnations of the dangerous banality of middle America.
After the death of Mall Goths like-minded father, Goth Dad, his mother takes their family in an unforeseen direction by marrying Chet, the incarnation of middle America. At first Mall Goth is content to resist his new father in word and symbolic gesture only, but when he reveals a sinister plot to take Mall Goth and his mother on a 6-week cruise to a Christian smooth jazz camp, Mall Goth is compelled to answer in deed, and marshals the forces of darkness and black magic to defeat Stepdad once and for all in an explosive final confrontation.
