Random Travel Music
In a new production, members of the New York City based composer/performer collective, Random Access Music will be presented on the West Coast. Violinist Myroslava (Mira) Khomik and pianist Füreya Ünal perform works by RAM composers Guy Barash, David Fetherolf, and Frances White, alongside a work by John Adams in honor of his 70th birthday.

With Talkback IV, the fourth in a series of compositions for acoustic instruments and live electronics, Barash explores extended techniques, enhanced timbre, and other sonic features that are characteristic of the instrument by magnifying and amplifying otherwise subtle nuances and bringing them to the foreground. David Fetherolf has continually poked at Somerville Sonata over the years, like a chef checking to see if a roast is done, or a child poking an animal to see if its still alive. The Old Rose Reader was inspired by Frances Whites love of old garden roses. John Adams refers to Road Movies as travel music.

Program:

Guy Barash: Talkback IV for piano and electronics (2010)
David Fetherolf: Somerville Sonata for violin and piano (1981, 2002)
Frances White: The Old Rose Reader for violin electronics and video (2004)
John Adams: Road Movies (1995)
