Event
Anna and Elizabeth
On Saturday, April 15th at 7:30 pm, Tompkins Corners Cultural Center will host Anna & Elizabeth who honor Appalachian artistry and shed new light upon tradition. We spent hundreds of hours listening quietly to old field recordings of people singing family songs, in their farm house kitchens in the 1940sthese old songs are immense, and hold vibrant, vibrating worlds within themwe are excited to share them with you in full color on our new cd, Hop High Vineyard.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to ingest the simple complexity of Anna and Elizabeth prior to their appearance at the Brooklyn Festival and their May tour of England. (www.annaandelizabeth .com).
As Bob Boilen of NPR Music put it, They came to NPR and brought many of us to tears with some of their yearning harmoniesThese songs are given few embellishmentssometimes a fiddle is added to a single voice, sometimes a banjo or guitar chimes inbut always the power is the sparseness. If youve never thought your tastes would lean to mountain music, take a breath and soak it all in.
And finally from our resident event curator, John Cohen, If you never heard of Jerron Paxton and fell in love with him at the Center last December come and see, hear and experience Anna and Elizabeth.
