Seattle Monk/Gillespie/Porter workshop: Tamir Hendelman's jazz workshops for vocalists and pianists/instrumentalists
Pianist Tamir Hendelman has toured the US, Europe and Asia with his own trio as well as the Jeff Hamilton Trio and Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, recorded and performed with Roberta Gambarini, James Moody, Barbra Streisand, Teddy Edwards, Natalie Cole, Jackie Ryan and many others and is on the jazz faculty of UCLA. His latest recording, DESTINATIONS topped the Jazzweek chart.
On the 100th birth years of Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk and 125th of Cole Porter, pianist Tamir Hendelman will present a workshop for pianists, instrumentalists and vocalists covering several of their compositions and exploring different aspects of performing/arranging them:
The 10:30am-12:30pm workshop is for vocalists of all levels. The 1-3pm workshop is for pianists and instrumentalists of all levels:

Participants are welcome to bring any jazz standard to perform, but are welcome to also perform any of these Porter/Dizzy/Monk tunes (for which charts will be provided):
Songs: You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To - in Dm aka F or Fm aka Ab A Night In Tunisia- in Dm, Cm or Bbm 'Round Midnight- in Ebm or Bbm
-Internalize the lyrics, original melody and harmony of the song -Sing the harmony of the song (connecting various chord tones) -Create arrangements in a duo/small group setting -Solo with rhythmic variation and using motifs on the song -Create a unique interpretation for the song.

We'll explore the songs' melodies, harmonies and lyrics and learn how to: -Memorize, internalize and transpose the songs. -Creatively accompany the melody and outline the harmonies of the songs -Create arrangements inspired by the songs' lyrics, progressions and melodies -Develop arranging ideas and solo ideas found on recordings -Interpret the melody and harmony in various ways. -Improvise on the song's chords and take ideas from others' solos.
