Dream Big: Engineering in Your Classroom (NGSS Connections)
What does it mean to be an engineer?
Dream Big: Engineering Our World, the Fleet Science Center's new Spring IMAX® movie, teaches us that engineering transcends age, gender and cultural barriers. An engineer can be someone who is trained in the field or it can be someone who identifies a problem and follows a process to overcome that problem.
Engineering in Your Classroom is a workshop that introduces teachers to the Engineering Design Process (EDP) as it relates to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Teachers will identify which engineering design process is most applicable to their students and discover ways to incorporate engineering regularly into curriculum. Following the workshop, all participants are invited to a complimentary screening of Dream Big: Engineering Our World in the Eugene Heikoff and Marilyn Jacobs Heikoff Giant Dome Theater.
What grades is this workshop applicable to?
NGSS Science and Engineering Practices run from K - 12. We ask that you mention your grade when registering so we can be best prepared.
Schedule for the Day
- 9 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: Arrivals and Breakfast
- 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.: Teacher Workshop
- 11:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.: Break and Transition to Theater
- 12 p.m. - 12:45 p.m.: Complimentary Showing of Dream Big in the Giant Dome Theater
Can I invite a guest to the showing of Dream Big?
We encourage teachers to meet friends and family in the Giant Dome Theater lobby prior to the showing of Dream Big. Tickets for friends and family may be purchased on the Fleet Science Center website or day-of at the box office.
