Lisa Geduldig and El Rio Present...
Comedy Returns to El Rio!

Comedy Returns to El Rio! is a popular monthly comedy show (every 3rd Thursday of the month) co-produced by Kung Pao Kosher Comedy's Lisa Geduldig and El Rio. The show, soon to celebrate its 9th year, takes place at El Rio in San Francisco's Mission District and showcases an eclectic, multicultural mix of intelligent, progressive comedians from the Bay Area and beyond.

This month's show takes place on Thursday, April 20 (but is not a 420 show) and features Mimi Gonzalez, New York's Bill Santiago, and Bay Area comics, Nathan Habib, Valerie Vernale, and Lisa Geduldig.

Mimi Gonzalez has been rocking the mic at Prides and protests to cruises and festivals since before being gay was spelled with three letters. She welcomes everyone in the acronym of GLBT etc through her fierce politics of inclusion. Her life-long agitation and activism is expressed in print through queer and diversity and inclusion magazines and as a stand up comic on nationally televised shows. She has been called one of the funniest comics in NYC by Backstage Magazine, and Provincetown Magazine says shes Funny, sexy, sharp, positive... Mimi Gonzalez is a comic, life-affirming force. www.MimiGonzalez.com

Bill Santiago became a stand up comic after narrowly escaping a career in journalism, facing the fact that as a comedian he was funny, but as a reporter he was a joke. Its been said he was born to Puerto Rican immigrants, which is technically untrue, as Puerto Ricans are US citizens (although hes got an uncle who was once deported to the Bronx). Currently, he is touring his show The Immaculate Big Bang at Fringe Festivals around the country to critical and audience acclaim. Recently, he served up his wit every weekend on "CNN Saturday Mornings," delivering comic relief commentary with "Santiago's Weekly Pop Wrap Up." He still appears regularly on CNN, after a good tweet. With the premiere of his first TV special, Comedy Central Presents: Bill Santiago, he won over fans nationwide with his dead-on observations about Spanglish  twice the vocabulary, half the grammar! and his beloved catchphrase ¡Porque Because! Which led to his first book, Pardon My Spanglish. ¡Porque Because! The book is being used at universities and high schools across the country to stimulate discussions about identity, language, and multiculturalism. Santiago's second half-hour special for Showtime LOL aired in 2011. Additional TV credits include: Craig Ferguson, Conan O'Brien, Comedy Central's Premium Blend, Chelsea Lately, Good Morning America Now, ABC News, NBC TV Visiones, and CNN en Español.  He was recently working with Bruce Helford (George Lopez Show, Bernie Mac Show, Drew Carey Show) to develop a TV show based on his book. Pardon My Spanglish ¡Porque Because! and had the honor of hosting the Latin Grammy's Man of the Year Award ceremonies. http://www.BillSantiago.com

Nathan Habib started doing comedy when he was 14. After making his 8th grade math teacher laugh, he knew comedy was his way to bring more joy to the world and shorter math classes to students. Nathan brings a friendly personality on stage while delivering a confidently vulnerable attitude and quick banter. His achievements, including performing in top venues including the iconic Fillmore, mark him as a rising comic in the Bay Area. He has showcased in noteworthy festivals like San Francisco Sketchfest.  His unique perspective on the most ordinary situations not only elicits laughter but is also critically appreciated by a diverse audience. Nathan is a favorite at the SF Punchline, Cobbs, and Rooster T Feathers and has opened for comics such as Josh Blue and Eddie Pepitone. http://www.NathanHabib.com

Valerie Vernale is a stand up comic born, raised, and based in San Francisco. She has performed all around the Bay Area, including Punch Line SF, Throckmorton Theatre, and Cobb's. Her comedy revolves around topical issues and trying to look at cliché things from a fresh perspective.

Lisa Geduldig is a local comic and comedy producer whos the creator, producer, and MC of a variety of comedy shows including Kung Pao Kosher Comedy™ (celebrating its 25th Anniversary this December!); Funny Girlz: A Smorgasbord of Women Comedians; The Color of Funny: A Multi-Cultural Comedy Show; and A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar: The Comedy of Religion. She moonlights as a bilingual (Spanish-English) publicist.
