Simes Studio Open House
Join us for an intimate presentation of the work of Jorge and Cindy Simes including their work in Eglomise
EGLOMISE
Verre Eglomise is a French term that refers to the process of applying a design, gilding and painting on the back side of glass, producing a visual depth with a reflective effect. Its name was adopted after Jean-Baptiste Glomy (1711-1786), a decorator and art dealer, who was responsible for its revival. Although the technique goes back to Pre-Roman antiquity it as has developed through the centuries including various other procedures and expanding its alluring visual appeal.
Since their first eglomise collection in 2005, Simes Studios has continuously been intent on addressing contemporary and historical approaches to design, and their relationship to the mesmerizing beauty of reflective glass surfaces. Our constant research and development of eglomise allow us to further expand on the original technical boundaries creating an updated visual language.
Jorge and Cindy will give a thirty minute talk on their wide range of eglomise techniques, its various application and many of the installation photographs and prototypes will be on display.
The studio is known for their singular style and attention to detail, incorporating historical references, cross-cultural influences and striking visual effects into their custom work. Their many specialty techniques include eglomise, murals, custom glazed and textured finishes, trompe loeil, venetian stucco, stenciling, gilding, custom mirroring and etching, faux bois and marble, painted furniture and floors.
The Chicago ICAA will also be introducing our new Chapter President, Scott Fortman.
