Corrales Garden Tour
Annual Corrales self-guided Garden Tour, Sunday June 4th, from 9 am-4pm, includes gardens for every interest. Gardens both large and small; established or quite new; one creatively developed on a low budget; another for homeowners who do not like to gardenthere will be ideas to carry home. These gardens feature native plants, low-water plants, vegetable gardens, water features, yard art, and even some livestock. Each one is designed for its physical location, and reflects the homeowners personal interests. The owner of one has propagated and grafted the rare fruit trees on theproperty, plus planting a wide variety of edible, herbal, and medicinal plants. Another has courtyards in front and back transformed from weeds and grass. Now it is a low maintenance property designed for owners who are not serious gardeners. A relatively new garden creatively incorporates minimal-water, xeric areas along with grassy, play areas for their children; yet another created an inviting, practical environment including gardens, fields for grazing livestock, and work space for training dogs. A mature garden has been modified by the current owner, adding pathways and creating more focal areas including a courtyard, pond and waterfall. Berms and xeric plantings define the front and side of a large property, while lots of flowers and a manicured lawn provide a beautiful contrast to the low-water plantings. Beyond visiting these six varied yards, take advantage of other options for fun during the weekend. Make a reservation at a lovely B&B. Look for specials, discounts, and raffles, offered by many businesses when you show your Garden Tour tickets, or visit the book sale at the Corrales Library, shop the Growers Market, tour local wineries, walk along the Bosque, or dine outdoors at a local restaurant. Price $12.00 in advance, $15.00 day of tour.
