Two young Afghans,Fereshteh and Nabi, are in love, but Fereshteh has to follow her parents and leave Afghanistan to find refuge in Iran. Nabi decides to illegally cross the border, find Fereshteh and take her through Turkey towards Europe and a better life.
The film was selected as the Afghan entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards. However, the film was not included on the final list of submissions published by the Academy. It was screened at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2016 & was the inaugural film at the 21st International Film Festival of Kerala.
DIRECTOR: Navid Mahmoudi Navid Mahmoudi was born in Parvan, Afghanistan in 1980. He and his family relocated to Iran when he was 6 years old. From a very young age, he has been interested in films and cinema and developed a passion for the art. He started his career as an assistant director and went on to direct his own short films and produce other works. He has been a producer of over 10 TV movies. He also produced his first feature "A few Cubic Meters of Love" which was selected as Afghanistan's official entry to the Oscars and was warmly received by international critics and the public.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT: The dangers engendered by Islamic State and the Taliban are omnipresent. In countries menaced by these groups people seek a better life by migrating, despite the fact that many lose their lives en route. My brother Jamshid and I have tried to portray their difficult passage.
