This piece explores the strength, necessity and folly of being alone. The dance seeks to express the connection we have with everyone and everything even though we often find ourselves feeling isolated or wishing to be isolated.
FOUND Choreography: Christina Hale Roberts Dance: City Modern Ensemble Music: Amber Run
This piece explores the relationship between self-realization and societal pressures of adolescents. The movement illustrates a range of emotions including depression, shame, and ultimately self-acceptance. This piece was choreographed to highlight the internal struggles of our youth and bring awareness to their fear of rejection.
EMERGENCE Choreography: Renae Dower Dance: City Modern Ensemble Music: Vitamin String Quartet
Emergence is piece is about the difference between a finished piece of artwork, and a thought or artistic concept yet to be put into being: one that is still only an idea in someones mind. The raw creativity of the thought and the finished creative work; how are they the same, how are they different? Most importantly, how do they interact in the creation of a piece of art? In Emergence, the dancers embody both a painting, and a still-forming idea, along with the elation and frustrations that come with both of these for the artist. Journey with them into, through and out of a painting, a blank canvas and a dark thoughtful void
HALLELUJAH Choreography: Christina Hale Roberts Dance: City Modern Ensemble Music: Jeff Buckley
In this piece, the choreographer was focused on the intensity of emotions felt during a gut wrenching breakup. It specifically focuses on the stages of grief and how many people find themselves turning to God to ask for the strength to get through it.
ENVELOPE Choreography: Andrew Caudill Dance: City Modern Ensemble Music: Various Artists
This piece was inspired by a couple of art pieces that I purchased while I was on a vacation. Not only are they beautiful they cause a great bit of anxiety. These piece conjure up some deep seeded fears. I thought on the fears themselves when choreographing this piece. I asked the dancers to also think of paintings that inspire fear. The results were very interesting. This piece has become a culmination of several fears. Using the movement and lighting I also hope that you can experience the manifestation of our fears
BLOOM Choreography: Andrea Boone Dance: City Modern Ensemble and you Music: The Paper Kites
The intention behind the piece is to celebrate love. To convey that love is beautiful and that it is for everyone, every way, all ages, shapes, sizes, and colors. The piece is three and a half minutes long and the beginning of it will just be current company members dancing. During the last minute of the piece is when each of the company members will have a loved one join them on stage and you all are welcome on stage as well (instrumental section of music). When the final chorus begins, all onstage will dance or really just be think pedestrian, loving movements. i.e. slow dance, dips, hand holding, spins, hugs, holding each others facesthose sort of everyday loving gestures the movements can be set by each pair on their own no pressure and nothing is wrong! Please be a part of this piece and remember to invite your spouse, children, parent, best friend, or whomever to join in on the celebration!
