The Red Tent
Director Ricardo Pitts-Wiley is staging his adaptation of Anita Diamant's best selling novel. The Red Tent is the story of Dinah. The only daughter of biblical figure Jacob. The play takes us into a world of powerful women, historic events and changing times. According to Old Testament text Dinah is assaulted by a prince from a nearby kingdom and her brothers savagely avenge her honor. However, in Diamant's novel she suggests a different telling of the story.
The Red Tent was both wildly popular and very controversial in its retelling of Old Testament text. This adaptation by Pitts-Wiley while honoring the novel presents engaging characters, in a modern setting, in a sometimes chaotic and rapidly changing world.
