Ellis Paul WoodyFest Songwriting Workshop!
This will be ELLIS PAUL's 2nd annual WoodyFest Songwriting Workshop, having conducted a very successful workshop last year. Ellis has a long history with the festival and Okemah, having performed at the first festival in 1998 during which he was also made an honorary citizen of Okemah.
Ellis describes the workshop:
"This will be a three hour class on songwriting, editing, and creativity with examples taken from Woody Guthrie's songs as well as others. It means to inform and inspire and enhance your songwriting voice!
We will deconstruct a few Woody songs as examples and ask the question-- What is it about these songs that makes them so great? Why have they stood the test of time? What lessons from them can I take into my own writing?
We will also discuss the wellspring sources for ideas, song editing, and the importance of sensory imagery."
Ellis Paul is celebrating 25 years as a folk musician this year. He has played at all but one WoodyFest and serves on the festival's Advisory Board. Within the past year Ellis has created several posters to assist songwriters and performers in general. In particular, examples of how to utilize his Songwriting Editing Wheel poster will be demonstrated. His posters - in a variety of sizes - will be available for purchase at the workshop.
Limited to 50 students. Early Bird registration ($30), Advance Registration ($40), or on-site registration (cash or credit $50). Students need only bring a notebook and pen. It is suggested that students be at least 14 years of age.
