How Lovely to Be a Woman: a Feminist One Woman Burlesque Show
Join Curtains Cabaret for the full premiere of DeeDee Queen's "How Lovely to Be a Woman: a Feminist One-Woman Burlesque Show."
Fresh from its workshop at Feinstein's/54 Below in New York City, "How Lovely to Be a Woman" is a glitter filled roller coaster ride through one female experience, which will appeal to feminists (and allies), burlesque and variety fans, and theatre lovers alike.
With Broadway favorites like "I Enjoy Being a Girl" and "I Feel Pretty" (as well as some obscure numbers from everyone from Kander and Ebb to David Yazbek), DeeDee Queen will take down the patriarchy while taking off her clothes, sending up social conditioning, sex, leaning in and leaning out, body image, motherhood, mansplaining, and more -- with glitter, pasties, and song.
Enjoy a pre-show featuring Bay Area burlesque dancers and stay for the first ever production of this anticipated new take on the form.
ABOUT THE WRITER: DeeDee Queen is a drag queen trapped in a cis-womans body, a performing woman who is performing woman. Years after dropping out of Columbia Universitys Theatre MFA to recover from anorexia, DeeDee has taken her story back to the stage with a comedic and playful love letter to all humans who struggle to live up to the demands of performing "woman."
ABOUT THE PRODUCERS: Curtains Cabaret is Silicon Valleys theatrical burlesque company, featuring full length burlesque plays and traditional variety shows. It is produced by Scarlet Conte and DeeDee Queen.
