Battledress by Rocha Dance Theater
Battledress is an evening length work of dance, costume design and original music. In this piece, the dancers distort the perception of the female, wearing and utilizing abstract armor inspired costumes. The costumes and dancers act as armature a framework that provides structure and stability as well as protection. The music score mixes urban styles with orchestral and tribal influences. Battledress embodies conflicts that relate to social structures and preconceptions, while asking the question: When is structure overbearing or when is there not enough?
