Brenda Xu + Nathan Reed
Doors 730 Show 8 All Ages
Ambient/folk artist, Brenda Xu (pronounced shoo) has been building a steady following since her arrival on the Seattle music scene a few years ago. The momentum she created with the release of her last album "For The Winter" in 2014 has led to two successful western U.S. tours and a recent feature in the MTV show "Awkward." Compared to artists such as Cat Power, Daughter, and Aimee Mann, her sound has been described as "treading the delicate line between washed-out ambient tones and carefully crafted acoustic arrangements." Her new album "Overflow" builds on the unique sonic landscape that she created on her last album with more complex song structures and musical arrangements. As a DIY artist, she has successfully funded two Kickstarter campaigns to release her albums and music videos. She plans to tour the U.S. and Europe this year to reach a growing audience in new regions.
With the lyrical prowess of a songwriter twice his age, Nathan Reed possesses the exceptional talent for interweaving biblical allusions, robust American folk, and personal parables in his signature ballads. EarToTheGround Music hailed Nathans songs as ripe with imagery from scripture and harmonies that seem heavenly (2014). Citing inNluences from Justin Vernon to David Bazan, Nathans own EP The Boy and the Bird (2016) echoes tones from Rehearsals for Departure-era Damien Jurado, effortlessly blending a sort of magical realism with the pictorial backdrop of his home and muse, the PaciNic Northwest. An increasingly active member of the Seattle-area music scene, Nathan has played at a host of venues with musicians such as Abby Gundersen, Lemolo, Zach Fleury, and St. Paul de Vence. He is currently working on a full-length project due out whenever he feels satisNied with it.
