Join us for an exceptional evening featuring the shakuhachi - the traditional Japanese bamboo flute. From Australia, Shakuhachi Grand Master Riley Lee joins Sonoma County's own shakuhachi maven, Elliot Kallen, in a concert exploring the surprisingly diverse world of this haunting instrument. Both players will showcase the traditional Zen roots of the shakuhachi as well as modern pieces that highlight its technical and musical outer limits. Several local friends will join Riley and Elliot in bringing pieces to life (including two pieces that are world debuts!). Refreshments will be provided by Taste of Tea of Healdsburg. The venue, The Church of One Tree, is a remarkable, nearly 150 year-old space with acoustics that are a wonderful complement for this music. Past concerts with Riley and Elliot have sold out, so advance tickets are highly recommended! This concert is a kick-off event for Sonoma County Matsuri, Santa Rosa's own festival of Japanese arts & crafts taking place Sunday, May 7th, in Juiliard Park, Downtown Santa Rosa, CA.
