Yemeni Muslim Jewish Deli Dinner Party at David's Brisket House
David's Brisket House has served the tastiest Jewish deli food in Bed Stuy since the 1930s. Originally owned by Jews, David's Brisket House changed hands in the 1970s when David himself left town for Las Vegas and put the business up for sale. Across the street, a Yemeni Muslim and a Yemeni Jew were partners in a bagel and doughnut shop, and they bought the beloved deli. Once the Yemeni Jewish partner retired, the Jewish deli was exclusively Yemeni Muslim owned.
Today, Riyadh Gazali, the Yemeni Muslim partner's nephew, owns and operates David's Brisket House. They never changed any of the classic Jewish recipes, but it is most certainly the only Jewish deli in New York that is closed for Ramadan. Riyadh will be our host at this dinner party as we feast on pastrami and mustard, brisket and gravy, rye bread, pickles, fries, potato salad, soda, and cake.
Meanwhile, the HIAS organization was formed during World War II to place Jewish refugees. After 70 years, they have switched to placing Muslim refugees and fighting against this administration's immigration and refugee policies.
Muslims who make delicious Jewish food. And Jews who work to place deserving Muslim refugees. It's perfect synergy!
For $40 you'll enjoy a feast at David's Brisket House as well as support the HIAS organization. Now is the time to sit down with our neighbors and break bread!
MENU: Pickles, pickles, pickles! Half a large pastrami on rye with mustard on the side Half a large brisket on rye with gravy on the side Half an order of French fries Half an order of potato salad One soda A slice of cake for dessert
