Inspired by Hindu cosmology, (w)hole is a karmic love story that follows two lovers, soul mates, who are separated at the fall of Troy. The woman is distraught, the man distracted by the concerns of survival.
Each searches for the other traveling through time and space, their souls experiencing many lifetimes and incarnations. They help and encounter each other in various forms reversing genders, becoming a parent, child, husband, lover or teacher to learn the full dimension of their love and in so doing becoming more fully human. Their journey teaches them how love, in all of its contradictions, trails, and dimensions, is the only thing that connects and makes whole a world of illusion and fragments.
(w)hole is performance installationan innovative interdisciplinary hybrid that weaves performance, dance, theatre, visual, sound, gallery exhibition, and media expressions. A 36,000 square foot former welding shop is the setting for this environmentally immersive world were the many lives of the lovers occur simultaneously with audiences able to experientially travel and create their own unique and intimate narrative.
The title, (w)hole, relates to the hole that we travel at death, some say it is a passage way to a larger reality, a place of oneness where souls are transformed, comforted and prepared to return to the physical world on their way to perfection. It is in the physical world that a soul learns what it needs to be whole againwhole with one self, one another, and all of creation.
In (w)hole everyday assumptions about reality are shown to be no more than illusions and that a deeper level of reality lies hidden beneath all the weirdness called life.
