Citizen Journalism: Post-Production
The International Examiner is teaming up with 21 Progress and industry expert Matt Chan to present a workshop series on citizen journalism.
"Citizen Journalism: Post-Production" is the fifth and final workshop in this series, and will focus on the conceptual elements of editing, using examples to clarify what works well and what to avoid. This workshop will be interactive, with opportunities for participants to ask Matt Chan questions about their video projects.
Huge thanks to Hing Hay Coworks for hosting us!

Workshop Description:
These days, it's easy to create and share videos. With social media and free video streaming sites, we can share our stories, opinions, and voices with more people than ever before.
Sadly, there are many videos online that are so poorly made that they're practically unwatchable. How you put together the pieces of your film is crucial to its finished quality. Editing is more about what you take out than what you put in, but it's challenging to edit well.
So, now that you have all your shots, how do you prepare for an edit? What considerations and skills will make your video the best it can be?
This workshop will focus on teaching participants about the conceptual elements of editing, including sound design (adding music and sound effects), conforming, color grading, editing dialogue (cutting "ums" and working around weird speech patterns), editing ethics, using dissolves and other features, software decisions and compression schemes, and how to make decisions that will advance rather than muddle your story.
Participants are highly encouraged to ask questions about your projects to our expert presenter.
Food will be provided.
