Jake Fussell House Concert
Roots Hoot House Concerts is pleased as can be to welcome back North Carolina-based singer, guitarist, and song-seeker Jake Fussell on Sunday, March 26 for a late afternoon couch show in our music room. Jake is opening for shows for Wilco earlier that week at the Beacon Theater in NYC, so a perfect reason to snag him to play for us. We first really caught wind of Jake Xerxes Fussell via the Oxford Magazine 2015 Southern music sampler. The focus for that annual edition was music of Georgia and being a native of Columbus, Fussell clearly passed the first wicket. One listen to the subject song and its easy to say his inclusion was well deserved. These days based out of Durham, N.C. the entrancing singer and guitarist Fussells self-titled 2015 debut record on Paradise of Bachelors Records, produced by and featuring the wonderful William Tyler, transmutes ten arcane folk and blues tunes into vibey cosmic laments and crooked riverine rambles. The follow-up to that debut due out on March 31 is called What in the Natural World and Jake will have copies available and which the label describes as a moving new album of Natural Questions in the form of transmogrified folk/blues koans. Son of folklorist, curator, and photographer Fred C. Fussell, artistic genes obviously are in the blood. Jake played a triumphant show for us last June and suffice to say, we are stoked to welcome him back to the Roots Hoot House Concerts fold. Its our standard Sunday potluck event and BYOB, too. Doors are at 4 pm and music starting at 4:30 pm.
