The WI Sustainable Business Council, in partnership with Cool Choices and Inpro, will present a morning forum featuring experts presenting information about sustainability certification schemes. This will be followed by the Sustainable Business Awards Ceremony over lunch.
The awards are designed to recognize businesses for their efforts in developing innovative products, processes, and business models.
The event will take place on June 23rd, and will be hosted by InPro Corporation in Muskego.
The forum will address the myriad of voluntary standards related to sustainability that the average Wisconsin business now needs to understand and possibly deal with. Many companies learn about these standards when they are brought to their attention either by a customer or by senior management that asks about the pros and cons of aligning with one of them.
Well present a panel that will break down the world of sustainability standards into: 1) International certification standards, 2) Financial and accounting disclosure standards and 3) Customer driven performance reporting standards.
Lynn McIntosh (CNH) will lead the presentation on international certification standards. Her presentation will include a discussion about ISO standards (9000, 14000:2015 and 50000) as well as OHSAS 18000 (occupational health and safety assessment series), the International Water Stewardship Standard, SA8000 (social accountability) and FSSC 22000 (the Food Safety System Certification) standard.
The presentation on financial and accounting disclosure standards will include information on SASB (sustainable accounting standards board), GRI (global reporting initiative), Dow Jones Sustainability Index, FTSE4GOOD and MSCI (originally Morgan Stanley Capital International).
Mark McDermid (WMEP) will lead the presentation on customer driven performance reporting standards. His presentation will include information about reporting under CDP (carbon disclosure project), the role of HPDs (health product declarations) and EPDs (environmental product declarations), the Sustainability Consortium and SEDEXs SMETA system (ethical trade audit).
You'll hear from businesses with expertise in reporting under these standards and gain insight to inform conversations with customers, suppliers and managers about the relevance and impact of standards for your business. You'll also meet experts that will be available to guide you through your own use of standards to accomplish business objectives, it that is in the cards for the future.
