JOHN MCGILLIS CD LAUNCH LIVE AT THE FLYING BEAVER PUBARET!
JOHN McGILLIS CD RELEASE SHOW. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23rd - 9:00pm
With a background ranging from opera to improv, Johnny McGillis loves reveling in good humour while singing robustly and tenderly. His recently produced CD features ballads such as Killing Me Softly and True Colors. Also performing on the CD is the flirtatious, the fabulous, Charo-inspired Chilean character Juanita Pancettas performing her unique take on Jeepers Creepers, I Cain't Say No, La Isla Bonita and many more. An audience favourite, Juanita has been called "a revelation: a drag queen who actually singsand brilliantly at that".
Johnny and Juanita have previously appeared at Toronto's Buddies In Bad Times Theatre, Bread & Circus, Free Times Café, and Statler's Cabaret. His/her past shows notably Caesar Salad: Dress It and Toss It, Rubbed Pork & Pickled Beet, Los Beades Anales and Bashful Bozo combine comedic improv with dulcet tones, and have garnered much attention and praise, with audience members declaring the evening "a perfect stomach workout." Johnny is a graduate of the Opera School at the University of Toronto and a former member of the Canadian Opera Company Chorus. His stand-up comedic talents were further fostered at Toronto's Second City Training Centre.
