Tooth & Nail and Paolo Morena
Tooth & Nail are a Grunge-Blues two-piece based in Leeds, UK. Formed in late 2016 by vocalist/guitarist Dan Pearson and drummer Mike Neilson the band trades in riff-driven, unpredictable, soul-influenced tunes that draw on a range of shared influences. Their songs are soaked in the blues, raised on grunge, well-schooled in classic rock and offer a stream of fuzz-driven hooks. Like all duos, the secrets in the chemistry. When Pearson (a quietly acclaimed Americana singer- songwriter with almost a decade of albums and tours) decided to ditch the acoustic and explore louder avenues, a chance meeting at a gig led to swapped numbers with Neilson and a first jam session the following week. Two rehearsals later, the boys had the bones of a set of visceral, exciting new songs and Tooth & Nail was born. It just came together so quickly- we locked into a groove and could play off each other pretty much straight away, says Pearson. We had so many shared musical reference points in rock and punk and soul music, and we both wanted to make exactly the kind of songs that came very easily to us. We knew band was something special right from the start. Even the name of the band arrived as if flown in by natural destiny. At our third rehearsal, wed talked about the things wed been through in music and in life - Dan with his solo records, me as a drummer in previous bands, the years and sacrifices wed put into fighting for a career in music, explains Neilson, And I said, well, we both fought tooth and nail to get here and keep making music. And that was it, the name was there and it meant something to us immediately. Tooth & Nail is us. Debut single Cryin For You (set for release on Saint In The City Records on 24th March) sets the template for Tooth & Nails take on classic rock n roll. Anchored by Pearsons soulful, bruised vocals and Neilsons pounding drums, the new track rocks a quiet-loud grunge dynamic, a gritty blues chorus and an adventurous, riff-powered ending.
Paolo Morena
If you thought you had seen it all music wise, you better prepare for Paolo Morena! He unveils his stunning new single Treasure in the Trash. Taken from his forthcoming album 38. Reflecting the turbulence of the times we are living in, Paolo is able to access our deepest thoughts via his accessible sound. His live looping approach is something to behold and hovers somewhere between gigging and performance art and it enables Paolo to turn his one man show into a symphony of sounds. Paolos 2016 singles All Wires Lead to the Flesh and Dance David Dance received widespread support from all around the UK. Damn, that kid got it bro! Huey Morgan : BBC 6 Music Fair warning then, as if it were even needed, to catch this man they call The Mighty Small before the mainstream swallows him whole and spits him out as an arena-packing monster Classic Rock Magazine Paolo Morena was born to be a musician its in his blood. His Grandfather and Father were both accomplished musicians who played in bands in Southern Italy where the family originates from. Paolos Uncle Tino was even World Champion Accordionist in 1969. Following a failed relationship at the age of 17 he ran away to Amsterdam the pivotal moment of his life. Amsterdam at the age of 17 was an incredible city to be living in. Working in a coffee shop by day and playing in Bars at night, Paolo came into contact with all manner of people and sounds that were to give him the foundations of the music career that followed. Challenged to put together a band in under a week to support the Australian Doors at the Macanti Plaza, Paolo found and rehearsed a band - and achieved the target, to play in front of 5000 people, in under a week! Those band members were to become life long friends and led directly to travel and adventures abroad, including France, Australia and the US. By the time Paolo returned to the UK he was a skilled and accomplished musician, with a wealth of experiences behind him and several diaries full of songs. A brief period of fronting a 3 piece rock band, The Morenas, followed. But though that led to radio sessions with Janice Long on R2 and Xfm with Lauren Laverne, tours with the likes of INME, and appearances on C4, there was a growing dissatisfaction with Band life, that led to Paolos eureka moment - and the start of his journey as the 21st Century One Man Band. The past 3 years have been about developing the Live Looping show playing over 300 gigs across the country in that time, and gaining a reputation as a unique performer. His debut solo album, TheMightySmall was released in 2015 to great acclaim amongst fans and Industry alike - supported by BBC Introducing and gaining plays from the likes of Huey Morgan on 6Music (Damn, that kid got it Bro!) The album attracted the attention of the likes of the Caffe Nero chain where Paolos music was playlisted as a Featured New Artist and the US publishing group Downtown, who signed Paolo to their roster.
